Mornington Mills, Darling Range

Millar’s next sighting, from a Western Australian Directory, was at Mornington Mills in the Darling Ranges, east of Perth, in 1909. At this time, the Millars Karri and Jarrah Forests Limited company had a timber mill at Mornington and Millar was employed as a clerk. It is probable that Millar worked at many mills for his grandfather’s company, as he was in the same area for about 2 to 3 years.

He was an active member of the Mornington Druid’s Lodge and there are many reports of social events he attended. He was installed as the Lodge Secretary on 12th June 1909:

and he attended a Men’s Smoke evening on 6th July 1909 and a Druid’s Fancy Dress Ball on 27th August 1909. At the ball, he was dressed as a “Kiltie”, from which we can assume, he wore a kilt.

Millar’s sister Marjorie was married to Malcolm Douglas Tweedie on 8th August 1911 at St Peter’s Cathedral in North Adelaide, South Australia.
